About The Artist

Hi, I'm Katie Hughes

My art is messy, chaotic but purposeful; it is not without deep meaning. The intention of my art is to highlight the beauty of all human bodies of any size, shape, position, gender, skin texture.

My art stems from my own personal insecurities and lack of body confidence which began at a noticeably early age due to the inevitable exposure to social media; social media which pushes unrealistic body standards and tries to profit from the body issues of others. I am trying to help people see how amazing their bodies are regardless of any insecurities they might have and irrespective of what social media says is the ‘ideal body.’ I always come back to the quote, "Normalise Normal Bodies'", when I think about my creative intentions.

I personally feel that I do not have a specific audience, I would like to think that my art is helpful and can be beneficial for all. My vision for my ever-growing nude art collection is to be internationally recognised as body positive and for people to see me as a feminist artist who goes against body norms and stands out from the crowd.

My main mediums include acrylic paint, paint pens, oil pastels, spray paint texture pastes and gels. These mediums allow me to capture the beauty of the body in an expressive and organic way, as I am able to create endless layers and textures. I gravitate towards bolder colours to radiate more positive energy and feelings for the audience. Additionally, I produce a more abstract depiction of the body as I like to represent the modern relationship one has between themselves and their own body.
